Migrant Workers in West Yorkshire, North Yorkshire and the Humber

This report has been published by the LSC in Yorkshire and Humberside.

Of particular interest in the Report is Section 6.3 on page 66, in which the  need to address language issues is asserted as the most important concern for improving the lives of Migrant Workers.  In most cases the immediate need is for functional conversational English rather than literary or academic skills.

The Churches Regional Commission plans to hold a series of seminars in the New Year to look at the capacity local Churches may have for establishing conversation groups, to enable Migrant Workers to improve their English language skills.

If anybody is interested in exploring this issue, or if you are aware of
relevant good practice, please let Robert Beard of the CRC know (address below).
