This NCVO leadership programme has been designed for individuals representing smaller civil society organisations, particularly those based in local communities.

It is aimed at leaders of groups with some or all of the following features:

  • a turnover of between £50k to £750k
  • a team of up to 15 people (this can include volunteers and paid staff)
  • be established and delivering activity

Participants must also be able to attend ALL the training dates listed below.

The programme will run between May 2008 and February 2009.
The launch event is 15 May 2008 (10.30am to 4pm) Barclays, Canary Wharf, London for all participants. Participants in each area (London, Bristol and Leeds) will then meet 4 times between June and February, each time from 1.00pm – 4.30pm beginning with lunch.

Bristol venue is Armada House, Bristol (close to Bristol Templemeads station)

Groups will consist of up to 20 leaders from all types of civil society organisations. Each group meeting will consist of some input about an aspect of leadership, followed by structured discussion led by the facilitator, majoring on participants experiences. In between meetings participants will be given material to reflect on their leadership practises and how they have applied new insight to their work.

Prospective applicants should consider whether:

  • they are able to prioritise the time required for travel and active participation in the launch event in London on 15 May and subsequent group meetings?
  • the participative style of the programme suits them? Are they willing to take time to honestly reflect on their current practise?
  • their organisation is able and willing to support their fully to participate in the programme, including releasing them for all events?

Cost
The programme is subsidised (by Barclays) so that the total fee per person - including the launch event and all group sessions - is £210 for NCVO members and £300 for non members (but don't forget participants will also need to pay for their travel).

On completion of the programme NCVO will return £100 to the participant's organisation in March 2009. There are also a small number of bursaries available.
