Money for Meetings
Backfill Payments Protocol: CONSULTATION AND PILOT
The Care Forum is looking for feedback and participants in a pilot for a scheme to pay small voluntary organisations in Bristol and South Gloucestershire for time taken to attend meetings. Posted: 14/11/08
Get involved with the Community Allowance Pilot
The CREATE Consortium want to hear from community organisations from across the UK that are interested in being part of the Community Allowance pilot programme.
Implementation of the Community Allowance would allow community organisations to be able to pay people to do work that strengthens their neighbourhood without it affecting any of their benefits.

LSC Mental Health Strategy Refresh
The LSC first published a mental health strategy in 2006. Since then the LSC have published 'Learning for Living and Work' and other government departments have produced policy on employment, social inclusion and health inequalities. In light of this, the LSC have begun the process of refreshing the mental health strategy. The strategy refresh was launched for consultation on 29th September 2008 and the consultation period ends 19th December 2008 with the final strategy to be launched in February 2009. Posted: 12/11/08
Parenting Fund
The Parenting Fund has launched a third funding round in October 2008. The funding consists of a grant of over £16 million over two years from the Department for Children, Schools and Families (formerly the DfES). It will be for a 24-month period for projects starting in April 2009. The application period is from 15 October 2008 to 12 December 2008. Recipients will be charities and “not for profit” organisations undertaking parenting support work where parents, families and children face significant challenges.

New European Funding Programme for the South West Region:
Community Grants
South West Foundation in Partnership with the Learning Curve and the Learning and Skills Council, will are opening a new grant programme on 10th November 2008 for the South West Region. The New Community Grants programme, funded by the European Social Fund and the Learning and Skills Council, is aimed at supporting Voluntary and Community Organisations with charitable aims, to deliver projects that will help and support people furthest removed from the labour market to pick up the skills and confidence that will enable them to move toward employment. This particular programme covers all of the South West excluding Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. Grants up to £12,000 will be available although it is envisaged that most grants will be in the region of £6-8,000. Posted: 07/11/08

Equality SW Business Plan Consultation
Equality South West (ESW), the first regional cross strand equality body in England, has produced its draft Business Plan for consultation. The Business Plan is a key document which will steer ESW work and priorities over the next 3 years. ESW would welcome your comments on the plan, however brief or extensive, by 31st December 2008. South West projects are TV stars!
Voting for the Big Lottery Fund People's Millions 2008 will take place on the 24th, 25th and 26th November. There are lots of fantastic SW projects in the running for this year's awards in both the ITV Westcountry and ITV Meridian South regions.
The competition coincides with South West Forum's annual conference which is being held in Bournemouth on the 25th and 26th November, so it's great to see South West projects in Bournemouth and Dorset in the running including The Bourne Spring Trust and Milborne St Andrew Village Hall. Parenting Fund (Bristol & Cornwall)
The Parenting Fund assists not-for-profit organisations undertaking parenting support work where parents, families and children face significant challenges. Job description:
The Exeter Take Part Pathfinder project aims to increase the number and diversity of people ‘taking part’ in civil and civic roles, decision-making and community leadership, and to identify and reduce barriers to participation. A key objective will be to identify those in the community currently under-represented and enable them to increase their understanding of democracy and influence in local decision making
As part of its preparation for this exciting new partnership project, Exeter CVS is seeking to employ the following staff from January 2009 until March 2011.
Development Worker and Tutor
Salary: £23,405 per annum pro rata related to NJC scp 28
28 hours per week
Develop and deliver a programme of learning for citizens, within a community context and offer access to accreditation for citizenship learning and skills development
Information and Publicity Officer
Salary: £16,941 per annum pro rata related to NJC scp 18
21 hours per week
Research information and publicity on civil and civic roles, design information, publicity and learning materials
Project Administrator
Salary: £15,247 per annum pro rata related to NJC scp 13
21 hours per week
Provide general administrative support to the project and tutors and liaise with learners. Organise meetings, training venues and events

We are looking for an experienced Knowledge manager /policy officer with demonstrable understanding of current government policies & knowledge management tools and systems.
In this post you will support BSWN in delivering a programme that is aimed at influencing policy, promoting, protecting and building the capacity of BME third sector in the South West.
Utilising knowledge management skills, policy tool kits and methodologies, your role will include:
- Working with the Project Director to identify and develop key policy areas
- Managing the organisation’s information service
- Assembling, Interpreting and analysing information
- Maintain contact as appropriate with partners and other external organisations
- Work effectively and collaboratively with all other stakeholders
- Maintain a knowledge management system
- The work is largely office-based with attendance at meetings, events and conference usually a feature of the work
